The National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) invests in innovative initiatives to support instructional practice, research, and leadership in visual arts education.

NAEF Vision Statement

As an independent, philanthropic organization, the National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) supports a wide variety of professional activities, including support for visual art educators to participate in professional development programs; the promotion of visual arts education as an integral part of the curriculum; the exploration of new models of visual arts instruction; the promotion of the teaching of art through activities related to the instructional process, curriculum, student learning, student assessment, management, or discipline; the purchase of equipment and/or instructional resources; and conducting research in visual arts education. NAEF has supported 365 projects since its inception in 1985. NAEF is a sister organization to the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and provides support for a variety of visual arts education programs for the Association and its members. NAEF shares NAEA’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion and encourages the submission of grant applications by all eligible NAEA members, especially those who are members of and/or teach in settings of historically marginalized groups.

Call for Nominations: NAEF Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of the National Art Education Foundation is seeking nominations for one new trustee who will take office at the conclusion of the 2024 NAEA Convention in Minneapolis. Potential trustees should have a strong commitment to advancing the cause of art education and insights on grant making; they should be willing to work and to make financial contributions to NAEF.

Speaker: Anne Labovitz: Artist, Public Artist, Arts Advocate, Fierce Anti-Racist, Fellow Human Being and Citizen of the World.

Labovitz’s practice is centered on community, experiential art, and the use of emotive color. Her latest research found that creating and experiencing art calms our central nervous system. Yet, how do we facilitate this? Labovitz will explore how art and creativity positively impact well-being and promote empathy, while highlighting her research for The Nexus of Well-Being and Art exhibition.

Labovitz will also discuss her framework of Pedagogical Possibilities for Peace through Participatory Art, highlighting her project 122 Conversations: Person to Person, Art Beyond Borders currently on view at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

This is a ticketed event, open to all NAEA Convention attendees.
Light Refreshments will be served.
Cost: $60 ($50 tax deductible).

The NAEF affirms the NAEA statement by supporting the NAEA’s Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Commission and by providing additional funding for the development of the Cultural Competency in Teaching and Leadership Development Program, now underway.
